REID HOFFMAN:
Hello! And welcome to The Marathon Mindset from Masters of Scale. I want to use the next two minutes to fill you in on who the course is for, what you can expect, and why I think it’s worth your time.
If you’ve ever taken a Masters of Scale course before, this one is going to be a little different. This time, I’m going to pass the mic to our fantastic guest host, Dan Harris, of the 10% Happier podcast and the app of the same name.
Dan has deep expertise in the material we’ll be diving into, which has to do with stamina. Leaders often have specific windows of opportunity to make things happen. During these deadline-driven periods, you’ll sacrifice going to the gym, sleep, and even regular meals to hit your target. You have to push yourself, because you believe there is no other way.
But there is another way. And if you don’t pay attention to your whole wellness, your overall performance is going to suffer. You need sleep, for example, to make good decisions and navigate away from landmines. That’s why I believe to be a successful entrepreneur, you must cultivate a mindset for running a marathon of sprints.
You need stamina to run a marathon. And building a start-up is like running a marathon of sprints — to get that presentation ready for investors, to get your product out the door, to roll out that new feature that will bring you more customers. If you’re going to make it, you’ve got to take care of yourself.
My friend Dan Harris knows this better than anyone. You probably know Dan from ABC News — but last year, he made the leap to full-time entrepreneur. So he’s been going through a lot of the same things you’re going through. And he’s trying to stay marathon-ready himself. Lucky for him, he’s got a Rolodex of the world’s top mindfulness experts and scientists. And for the next six days, he’s going to share the best of their wisdom with you. We’re talking practical ways to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities of the daily race to help you develop a mindset for running a marathon of sprints.
At the end of certain days of this course, I’ll jump back in to help reinforce what you’re learning with a concrete Action Item because you don’t think your way into a new way of acting, you act your way into a new way of thinking.
I’m glad you’re here.
